6 Reasons Steer Clear of Blog Networks
- Money - You only get part of the money!
- Guilty by Association - If the network looks bad so do you!
- Conforming - If you thrive on controversy posts consider your partners
- Inside the Square - Tunnel-vision from working with your blog partners rather than with the outside world (lack of inspiration)
- Growing Pains - Being drowned out by the big bang - network expansion may result in not receiving support
- Locked In - Did you start blogging to vent via writing? Deadlines, 1 post per day requirements, sounds like a job to me… bach humbug
(My views from the post on ProBlogger)
7 Reasons to Enter Blog Networks
- Relationships - communicate to your blog teammates through forums, chat, email lists for support all things blogging. You have already established raport by fighting for the same cause!
- Traffic - generating a loyal readership is hard work. Network blogging can offer cross-promotion and incoming links from your network allies making traffic flow a little easier.
- Expertise - are your blog skills sharp in blog platforms, marketing, net advertising, theme design and domaining? A huge help in a network of bloggers is to cry help at the top of your voice. Team work will prevail and you’ll be back on your feet in no time.
- Revenue - with increased traffic come increased ad revenue. Could you have increased your traffic solo and ate your pie too?
- SEO - search engine optimisation, will you be in Google or not? (and we are not talking about result page 788,992) A major benefit of an established network is its solidified position in the ever changing internet. Links, directories and search engine rankings all get your more traffic.
- Prestige - being part of the A-team gives your blog internet credentials. (net cred)
- Learning - working in a professional network builds your experience for future endeavors.
The above points are my summarised views from the original post at ProBlogger.
4 Reasons For You To Be Good Enough
- Passion - Sounds stupid, but it’s true. Most people won’t enjoy writing if they don’t like what they’re blogging about. Also, they’re probably more likely to quit if they don’t enjoy it.
- Writing skills - This is an obvious answer since blogging is writing.
- Personality - I think some of the best blogs out there are so popular because of the personality of the person writing. A personality can make or break a blog.
- A Blend of Quantity and Quality - Some blog networks require you to post daily and be a subject matter expert (not re-hash the net)
